Fire destroys home in Lehigh

By Staff | Jan 23, 2009

A house in a remote part of Lehigh Acres was destroyed by fire Friday and fire officials said it was fully engulfed when they arrived. The fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. at 1222 Cloplon St. East.

Fire officials said there are no fire hydrants in the area and water had to be taken in by tanker. Only a small part of Lehigh has nearby fire hydrants, officials said.

With the house totally in flames, fire fighters could not enter the house to see if anyone was inside, said Patrick Comer, the fire department’s public information officer.

However, Comer told The Citizen that no one was at home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries, however the home was a total loss. The Property Appraiser lists the home’s value of home at $112, 960, Comer said. Two vehicles in the garage were also a total loss, he said.

The State Fire Marshal has been called in to assist with the cause and

origin investigation. The fire was discovered by a passer-by, Comer said.

Within an hour, firefighters had extinguished the fire. Four fire trucks from Station 105 on Thomas Sherwin Ave., just off Milwaukee Blvd., responded to the fire. According to county records, Aly Rodriguez owns the home. The fire was finally put out at 2:20 p.m., fire officials said.
