The Florida Lottery today announced that R. T. Johnson, 66, of Palm Beach Gardens, claimed $1 million from the Florida POWERBALL drawing held on January 21. Johnson is the first Florida POWERBALL with Power Play winner to match 5-of-5 winning numbers.

He purchased the winning ticket at City Discount Beverage, located at 793 Northlake Boulevard in North Palm Beach. The retailer received $1,000 for selling the winning ticket.

Johnson is the second Florida player to match five numbers since the game launched in Florida on January 4. Because he added Power Play for just $1 more, he won $1 million instead of the standard 5-of-5 prize payout of $200,000.

The next POWERBALL drawing will be held January 24, at 10:59 p.m. ET with a $25 million jackpot. Winning numbers are available on the Lottery Web site flalottery.com, at retailers statewide and by phone at (850) 921-PLAY.
