The Citizen online site has new look
Regular on-line readers of The Lehigh Acres Citizen will find a whole new look at Lehighacrescitizen.com today.
Breeze Newspapers, of which The Citizen is a part of, has greatly expanded its Web presence to better serve readers and advertisers and, in the process, has added new features to make the site more interactive with the community.
“The major goal is to serve as the host of a community discussion,” said Breeze Newspapers Publisher Jack Glarrow. “We want to be the place where the community conversation is held on a daily basis, 24-7. You can add your comments as a
reader to our stories, something you haven’t been able to do before.”
Another new addition to the site is the online publishing of community- contributed blogs concerning Lehigh Acres and Lee County.
You can even propose a topic if you’d like to contribute as a blogger by calling 368-3944 and asking to speak with Mel Toadvine, the Citizen’s editor.
“What this allows us to do is feature segments and offer a whole discussion line that includes a lot of detail on a very narrow subject,” Glarrow said.
Other features of the Web site include posting questions to columnists; expanded story packages with more photographs, fact boxes and polls; user-
friendly calendars; online lifestyles features, engagements, wedding and anniversary submissions; a military news category; and easy access to the CU
photo-sharing community.
The Citizen’s mission is to be the primary provider of local information, Glarrow said. “That doesn’t necessarily say on paper. This technology allows us to offer this in a different form. Anything we can do to stay on mission, break news more quickly, to go into deep subjects about living in Lehigh Acres, we’re going to jump on it, and absolutely it gives us more tools to do that.”
Breeze Newspapers is expanding the new Web site format to its other publications throughout Lee County, and will continue to stay current with
internet publishing.
“It’s a developing technology,” Glarrow said. “It’s still new and we’re still looking for ways to improve it every day. We’re all learning together, and we’re offering new services as we identify their value.”
