Leland Dartt

Leland “Lee” Dartt, 81, of Lehigh Acres, formerly of Essex Junction, Vt., died Friday, Jan. 23,2009. Dartt was born on May 10, 1927, in Hinesburg, Vt.; the son of the late Stanley and Mable Dartt.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Merritt and Donald; and a grandchild, Michelle Dartt.

Dartt is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara (Machado) Dartt; his children, Sandra and (Stephen) Lawrence of Essex Junction, Vt,. and Steven and (Pamela) Dartt of Milton, Vt.

Dartt has three grandchildren, Paul Dartt, Melissa Hayden, and Keith Lawrence; four great-grandchildren, Aiden and Colin Lawrence, and Madelyn and Dylan Hayden; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Call and Paula Machado; and several nieces and nephews.

Dartt graduated from Cathedral High School in Burlington, Vt., then went into the U.S. Navy in World War II Submarine Service. Later, he worked for State Farm Insurance for 30 years.

He was past president of 3rd and 4th degrees with the Knights of Columbus, Rotary president, and was a member of American Legion in Vermont. Dartt enjoyed playing golf.

A memorial Mass will be set for Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m., in St. Raphael Catholic Church in Lehigh Acres.

A funeral Mass and burial will be held in Essex Junction at a later date at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Farley Funeral Home, 1100 Lee Blvd, Lehigh Acres, FL 33936.
