Baker tops Cape; high school results posted
All five starters scored in double figures as Ida Baker pulled away from District 5A-15 rival Cape Coral for a 72-58 victory Friday night at Baker.
The teams waged a thriller earlier this season with Cape prevailing 79-76 in overtime. The Seahawks got off to a fast start Friday, draining 7-of-10 three-point attempts in the first half.
The Bulldogs (16-8, 6-2) countered by finishing the half on a 10-2 run, which gave them a three-point halftime lead.
In the second half, the Bulldogs took control in large part due to their size, defense and passing ability. They finished with 25 assists.
Gabe Rodriguez led the Bulldogs with 19 points. John Skinner had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Zach Campbell tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds. Xavier Battle recorded 11 points and 10 assists.
The Seahawks (15-7, 4-4) were led by Joel Hill, who had 23 points, and Yoko Roldan, who nailed four three-pointers and finished with 20 points.
The victory enabled the Bulldogs to secure the No. 2 seed in the district tournament, which they host.

Lehigh 54, Mariner 41: The Tritons fell behind 20-9 early on and it was an uphill battle from there against Lehigh.
Ricardo Barsesa scored 12 points for Mariner (10-12), which hosts Riverdale Tuesday in the regular-season finale and then hosts Riverdale again in an LCAC crossover game Thursday.
North Fort Myers 68, Cypress Lake 64: Tre Boston (21 points) and Erwin Guerrero (12 points and 11 rebounds) sparked North (7-13) to a four-point win over Cypress Lake.
Dunbar 60, Bishop Verot 56: Bishop Verot bolted to a 20-13 first-quarter lead, but stumbled in the second quarter with just three points and dropped a close game to Dunbar.
Brennen Melvin led all scorers with 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Verot while Etienne Effenberg added 19 points and Jesse Kane 10.
The Vikings (15-7) host Community School of Naples Saturday night.
