SUV is stolen; suspects flee in traffic stop
Fort Myers Police say they are investigating a carjacking today after a woman detailing her car with her children at a Fort Myers car wash was grabbed by the hair, punched, and then had her SUV stolen Saturday night.
Police received the call at 8:58 p.m., informing them of the theft at the Spot Not Car Wash at 3900 Palm Beach Blvd.
The woman told officers she was at the car wash with her two children when four men approached her. One of the men grabbed her by the hair, punched her in the stomach and demanded her SUV, she said. Her daughters were told to get out of the SUV by one of the other suspects. The men then took off in her vehicle, police said.
Officers located the SUV on Veronica Shoemaker Blvd. and attempted a traffic stop between Edison Ave. and Capri St. investigators said.
The carjackers did not stop. The suspects continued driving east to Dupree St. to a dead end. They fled from the SUV on foot toward the Beecher Village neighborhood. Police said they pursued the men on foot and set up a perimeter with the assistance of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and its aviation unit but did not locate the suspects. The victims did not need medical attention.
