Police investigating double fatality
Two people were killed Tuesday when a car crashed into palm trees on McGregor Boulevard and burst into flames.
Fort Myers police responded to the single car crash near 2439 McGregor Boulevard at 11:48. A preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of a Chevy, two-door car was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control hitting at least two palm trees, officials said. The car burst into flames.
When police arrived on scene the car was engulfed in flames with a tree through it. One person was ejected from the car and another was trapped inside. Both were badly burned and died on scene.
Police will be unable to make official identification of the two people without the help of the Medical Examiner.
McGregor Boulevard was remporarily shut down between Lynwood and Sandra.
