LACPC member upset about who will show Obama around Lehigh
One of the younger members of the Lehigh Acres Community Planning Corp. today said he is confused as to why Fort Myers Mayor Jim Humphrey would accompany President Barack Obama on a tour of Lehigh Acres on Tuesday when the president comes to Fort Myers to hold a town hall type meeting at the Harborside Event Center in downtown Fort Myers.
“I am extremely excited the President recognizes the growing problems we have in Lehigh Acres and has decided to make a visit so soon into his term. However, I was more than a little confused as to why he would tour Lehigh Acres with Fort Myers Mayor Jim Humphrey. Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres are different areas with different concerns,” he said in an email to fellow members of the LACPC. Crews is the new secretary of the LACPC.
Crews said he thinks it should be Lehigh people who accompany Obama or meet with him about the issues in Lehigh.
“I personally went to “http://http://www.whitehouse.gov”>http://www.whitehouse.gov and sent a brief note to the presidential staff on this issue. There are many qualified folks out here who could give the President a much better picture of the problems we face, with groups like the LACPC, The Community Council, and the Chamber of Commerce in town,” Crews said.
“If you are like me and are left scratching your head as to why Lehigh would be represented by the Mayor of Fort Myers, then address the president’s staff yourself here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/,” said Crews.
“It can’t hurt. After all, I doubt Obama tours Minneapolis with the mayor of St. Paul,” Crews said.
