By Staff | Feb 10, 2009

The General, Woman’s Club of Lehigh Acres will offer several $1,000 scholarships to local high school seniors interested in enrollment as fulltime students in accredited colleges or universities.

Students must be residents of Lehigh Acres, said Carol Neary, a spokeswoman for the club, and be in the upper third of their class.

She said they must submit a Student Permanent Report and a transcript of SAT or ACT scores. The resume must also show community involvement, awards received, club memberships and any part-time employment by the student.

Letters of recommendation from teachers or other interested persons should be included, she said.

Students should contact their councilor at their schools for more information.

Resumes must be received no later than Saturday, April 4, 2009 to be considered. They can be mailed to Carol Neary, Scholarship Chairman, 303 Hollywood St., Lehigh Acres, FL, 33936. For more information, call 369-7168.

Also, the club will award two $500 scholarships to single parents with minor children living at home. The applicant must be attending continuing education

classes at an accredited college or university and the applicant must also be a resident of Lehigh.

In addition, the applicant must give the name of college or university in which he or she is enrolled, give a brief biography that includes his or her area of

study and supply an address and telephone number where the applicant can be contacted. These applications must be received no later than April 4, 2009 in order to be considered, Neary said.
