Cape man accused of sexual relationship with minor

By Staff | Feb 11, 2009

A 28-year-old Cape Coral man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
Michael Angelo Campos of 2206 S.E. 18th Place was charged with lewd and lascivious battery of a minor and computer pornography solicitation of a child.
In November, the 14-year-old told a youth service counselor she and a man named Mike Cedeno had been engaged in a sexual relationship which began shortly after her birthday in October, according to a police report. Cedeno was the 28-year-old brother of a friend, whom she had sex with several times under a bridge and in a bedroom, the youth reportedly said.
Police said they confirmed through photographs that the suspect’s name is actually Michael Campos.
Campos’ family members could not be reached by telephone Wednesday evening.
During an investigation spanning several months, the Cape Coral Police Department acquired over 500 pages of text messages between Campos and the young girl from his cell phone provider, some of them sexual in nature, officers said.
Several of the messages reportedly requested nude photographs from the victim.
Campos told police the text messages were “just talk,” and said he “never received those photos,” reports state. He also reportedly said he never touched the victim.
Campos was booked into the Lee County Jail Tuesday in apparent good health. He remained in custody Wednesday evening on $300,000 bond, according to jail records.
