Physician charged in sexual assault on Lehigh girl
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office today said that on Tuesday, February 10, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office was given information by the Florida Department of Children and Families about a possible sex crime to a local teenage girl. The complaint identified a Southwest Florida pediatrician as the suspect. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit were assigned to investigate.
The investigation culminated today with the arrest of the doctor identified as 42-year-old Edward German of 12371 Jewel Stone Lane, Fort Myers. While in a custodial role, he is accused of conducting an examination of the victim to determine if the juvenile was still a virgin.
This was done on one occasion with the permission and in the presence of the child’s parent, however, it occurred on other occasions without the consent of the child’s biological parent at the victim’s home in Lehigh Acres, according to Sgt. Larry King, a spokesman with the Sheriff’s Office.
King said these incidents occurred over the past couple of years and had no bona fide medical purpose. King said German has been charged with three counts of sexual battery to a victim under 18 years of age, third degree felonies.
According to court records, German is in custody and was denied bond. He will face a judge on March 16.
