The Boston Red Sox, in partnership with Lee Memorial Health System Foundation, today announced today the honorary chairman for The Boston Red Sox Children’s Hospital “Tee” Party and Boston Red Sox Children’s Hospital Celebrity Golf Classic will be local legend Mike Greenwell.

Greenwell, who spent his entire major league career with the Red Sox, was runner-up in the AL MVP voting in 1988 when he hit .325 while smacking 22 home runs and tallying 119 RBIs. Nicknamed “Gator,” Greenwell batted .303 lifetime and spent his career mastering the intricacies of Boston’s famed “Green Monster.”

Attendees of the Boston Red Sox Children’s Hospital “Tee” Party on Feb. 19 and the Boston Red Sox Children’s Hospital Celebrity Golf Classic on Feb. 20 will have the opportunity to meet and get autographs from the Boston star.

Both fundraising events will take place at the Forest Country Club in Fort Myers. All proceeds will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous philanthropist and will go toward an eight-bed expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. Ron McEwan and Shannon Stefanacci are co-chairs for the events.

Tickets to the “Tee Party” are $35 and individual golf slots in the Celebrity Classic ($300) are still available by calling the Lee Memorial Health System Foundation office at 239-985-3550.
