Hartley V. Martin
Hartley V. “Doc” Martin, 90, of Gaithersburg, Md., and Lehigh Acres, died peacefully in his sleep on January 19, 2009. Born in Rochester, N.Y., Martin was a long-time resident of Central Square, N.Y., and Lehigh Acres.
He was a teacher of agriculture for more than 30 years. He had also been employed by Cornell Cooperative Extension and the New York State FFA Leadership Training Foundation. He was a tireless volunteer for his churches, the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Fort Myers, FL and the First Universalist Church of Central Square, NY. He loved gardening and golfing.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane Collins Martin, his son, David (Dorothy) Martin of Rochester, N.Y., three daughters, Susan (Harold) Tomlinson of Ballston Spa, N.Y., Catherine (Michael) Hall of Poolesville, Md., and Linda (Harium) Martin-Morris of Seattle, Wash., 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Fort Myers, on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at 2 p.m. and at the First Universalist Church of Central Square, N.Y.. Memorial contributions in. Martin’s name may be made to the New York FFA Foundation, Inc. in care of Oswegatchie Educational Center, 9340 Long Pond Rd., Croghan, NY 13327, or the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Fort Myers, 13411 Shire Lane, Fort Myers, FL 33912. Burial will be in Rochester, N.Y.
