Nicely receives ‘thank-you’ email for Beanie Babies

By Staff | Feb 14, 2009

A third email arrived this weekend to Rae Nicley, executive director of Lehigh Community Services, thanking her for the Beanie Babies her agency sent to the soldiers of Iraq.

A story was featured in The Citizen a few months back about how Lehigh Community Services was the collection point of Beanie Babies.

A photograph of Nicely showed her in front of several large boxes of beanie babies that she planned take to the post office to be sent to Iraq.

Rae emailed many of those this weekend that helped her collect the hundreds of beanie babies that were sent to troops overseas.

“Without their help, it would not have been possible,” Nicely said.

The following is a copy of an email she received this weekend:

“Dear Mrs. Charlotte Rae Nicely, thank you for all of the Beanie Babies. I believe I mailed you a message earlier telling you they had arrived. I was sent home after a seizure but have been cleared to return. I wanted to ensure you were aware the soldiers did appreciate your support. Actually several soldiers kept some Beanie Babies and several brought them out to the stations to distribute to the children in their communities. “Thank you for your thoughtfulness and your caring nature. I do believe we received all the packages. I took a photo of the wall of boxes but when I was sent home I left the card reader. I will send you the photos when we return home in March. We appreciate your continued support as well as to any other soldiers in units still deployed.”

The email was from Sgt. Lisa Piette-Edwards, a member of the 65th Military Police Company (Airborne). Her deployment location was note given.
