Officials: Man killed in officer-involved shooting confronted deputies
A man shot to death in San Carlos Park Sunday was threatening to kill himself and had confronted the responding deputies, officials said Monday.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received the call to 8164 Sandpiper Road at 9:36 p.m. Arriving deputies were confronted by the man, resulting in a deputy discharging his issued firearm, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.
The man, identified as George Vincent, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.
The deceased will be released to the District 21 Medical Examiner. The man’s residence remains secure while forensics specialists document the scene.
The deputy will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation as is standard protocol.
