A San Carlos Park man was shot and killed by a Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy on Sunday, Feb. 15 after they were called shortly after 9:30 p.m. to the area. He has been identified as George Vincent, 49. His address is listed as 8164 Sandpiper Rd. in Fort Myers, and that is the address where the shooting occurred.

The caller said a man was threatening to shoot himself on Sandpiper Rd. in the San Carlos Park community of Fort Myers, according to a spokesman at the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived on the scene and were confronted by the man, resulting in a deputy discharging his issued firearm, investigators said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured. No more details were given early today.

The body was released to the District 21 Medical Examiner. The unidentified man’s residence remains secure this morning while forensics specialists investigate the scene.

The deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation as is standard practice, authorities said.
