Betty J. Pettitt

Betty Jean Pettitt, 83, of Alva, died Sunday, Feb. 15 at the Hope Hospice House in fort Myers.

Pettitt was born Oct. 26, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Carl and Marie Benedict Reed of Bradford, Ill.

She attended schools in the Bradford area and served as office manager in several Kewanee businesses.

She married Leonard Ralph Pettitt on Dec. 8, 1946 and in 1967, they moved to Florida.

Upon arriving in Alva, she was employed at Murphy Groves and was a member of the Alva Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leonard Pettitt; a son, David Pettitt of North Coral, Fla., four granddaughters, and one grandson, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Alvin Leroy Pettitt; two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 at noon at Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home, 12777 SR82, Fort Myers.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of the funeral. Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
