Queen, Prince pageants to take place at Festival
It’s almost that time of the year again with young girls and little ones, too, and even toddlers to compete in the upcoming Lehigh Spring Festival Contest pageant contests.
Susan Teston is chairman of the committee that is accepting applications for contestants for Miss Lehigh Acres, Little Miss Lehigh and Little Prince of Lehigh and the Toddler of the Year.
You can find applications online at lehighspringfestival.com.
The deadline for entering is noon March 9. You can bring them to the Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce office at 4109 Lee Blvd. of mail them to PO Box 757, Lehigh Acres, 33970.
Teston, the assistant director at the Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce, said she is excited about this year’s contest.
“I know we have a lot of beautiful young girls in Lehigh who would enjoy competing in this contest. And we don’t want to forget the little boys, too. They can compete in the Little Prince category,” she said.
Teston is taking over for Diana Reisinger, who has headed up the pageants in the past.
Teston, herself was Miss Lehigh Acres in 1969, before the Spring Festival. The contest was put on by the Lehigh Corp. and the Five County Builders Association. She won a $2,000 scholarship and went on to college.
Teston would like to see if some scholarship money can be raised this year for the kids who win the contests.
She is planning to send applications to the schools and to the local daycare centers to help get the word out.
She said the competition for the pageants will begin on the first Saturday night of the pageant, March 21 at Veterans Park.
The Spring Festival will actually begin Friday night, March 20 with opening ceremonies and continue to Saturday, March 28.
“The winners of the Queens and Prince contest will get to ride on the Spring Festival Committee float and be honored throughout the festival.
“They can also get into the talent contest, but that has nothing to do with the competition of who will be named the queens and the little prince.
“This is a great opportunity for parents to get their children interested in being on the stage. It’s one of our most popular events each year,” Teston said.
Teston said there will be a panel of judges. If you would like to be a judge, call her at the Chamber office at 369-3322.
“We’re really hoping for a lot of young people to join in the competition,” Teston said.
