Prep Report: Gators chalk up no-hit win
Island Coast bunched their hits and took advantage of multiple fielding errors to pin a 12-1 no-hit defeat on Cape Coral Christian Thursday night.
The Gators scored their runs off just seven base hits, while Cape Christian committed five errors.
Sophomore Kyle Harding (2-for-3) led the Gators with two hits, including a double, and three RBI. Nelson Candelario, a sophomore, also doubled and drove in two runs.
Jordan Moody pitched three innings of no-hit ball and struck out five to earn his first win.
The Gators (2-3) travel to Out-of-Door Academy for a game Saturday.

North Fort Myers 11, Cypress Lake 5: Michael Becker and Robert Branham delivered three-run triples in the sixth inning to seal a come-from-behind victory for North Fort Myers over Cypress Lake.
The triples highlighted an eight-run surge that overcame a two-run deficit. It also handed R.J. Curtis his first victory of the season with two innings of relief.
Ralphy Elmi slapped a pair of doubles and Ivan Melendez added two hits, including a double, and scored four times.
The Red Knights (3-3) host South Fort Myers Tuesday.

Boys Tennis
Ida Baker 5, Island Coast 2: Caleb Davis and Jaryd Wydock of Ida Baker made up for single match losses by winning at doubles to help the Bulldogs defeat Island Coast Thursday.
Davis lost to Island Coast’s Colton Wieser 6-4, 6-3 in singles, but teamed with Paul Lapikas to beat the Gators’ Wieser and Mason Rodill 8-6 in doubles.
Likewise, Wydock lost a singles match in a tiebreaker to Island Coast’s Ron Lind, but Wydock and Nick Boye prevailed over the Gators’ Lind and Dominic Capizzi in an 8-6 doubles victory.
The Bulldogs (1-2) play at Fort Myers Tuesday.

Bishop Verot 5, Gateway 0: Bishop Verot won all five singles matches and did not need doubles to sweep Gateway Charter.
The Vikings dropped just three games in the five straight-set wins by Linda Korneinko, Mariel Rickert, Nia-Marie Eddy, Kathleen Norris and Kayla Cheslosky.
The Vikings (3-0) host district rival Riverdale next Thursday.

Cape Coral 16, Canterbury 13: Jamie Whetsell knocked in eight goals and Joanna Russell added three to lead Cape Coral to victory at Canterbury Wednesday.
Carly Boscarino added a pair of scores while Megan Bick, Bailey Caponi and Abby Owiensny each had one goal. Goalkeeper Tara Murza made 22 saves.
The Seahawks (2-2) play at 6 p.m. Monday at Bishop Verot.
