Building permits up slightly

Builders in unincorporated Lee County, which includes Lehigh Acres, were issued 25 permits for single-family houses in February, collectively valued at more than $9.3 million, said Mary Gibbs today. She is the director of Community Development for Lee County. She said that compares to 13 permits issued for the previous month and 58 issued in February 2008.

Also in February, permits were issued for eight multi-family units, compared to four the previous month and 14 in February 2008.

Commercial permitting was valued at more than $10.3 million for 15 permits in February, compared to $1.2 million the previous month and more than $16.1 million in February 2008, Gibbs said.

Lee County Community Development oversees planning, zoning, development, and building services, environmental review, building inspection and code enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Lee County.
