Minister group urges support of food kitchen

By Staff | Mar 3, 2009

To the Editor,

I wanted to follow-up on the ministry of “Our Daily Bread” that we have been discussing at our Evangelical Ministerial Alliance (EMA) meetings. I thank God that we have this ministry in our community. I refer many people there who have a simple need for a hot meal. It is my hope that this ministry will thrive in our community. Our Daily Bread needs our help to continue and I pray that as the community churches we are well able to meet the need.

Our Daily Bread is currently one of the ministries that my church tithes to, we also put a request in our Sunday bulletins for any one who can volunteer and help at Our Daily Bread. It is my hope that as a community we can together maintain this ministry.

Pastor Carlos at the Christ United Methodist Church where Our Daily Bread is located mentioned that volunteers are needed Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for set-up, service, and clean-up, along with any other support we can offer. Volunteers can call the church at 369-1433 to offer assistance.

Porzio is pastor of the New-Image Ministries Church in Lehigh and also president of the EAL. A story in The Citizen last week said the food kitchen, Our Daily Bread, has been forced to shut down for two days of the week and open only for three days – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, because of the lack of financial support in the community. – Ed.
