I-75 accident closes down north lanes until 3 p.m. today
Interstate 75 has been shut down at mid-day because of a multi-vehicle accident on the Peace River River Bridge. Deputies were called the scene at the top of the bridge at around 10:43 a.m.
Traffic has backed up and police were sending motorist to Rt. 17 at Exit 164. A flatbed ruck transporting pipe, an RV and a motorcyclist were involved in the crash. Officials say the Interstate northbound lanes may be closed until around 3 p.m. today.
The interstate is closed between exit 161, Jones Loop Road, and exit 167, which is Harbourview Blvd.
The latest report or rerouting off the Interstate is at Jones Loop with motorists being directed toward Rt. 41. If motorist want to get back on the Interstate, they can get back on at Harboourview Blvd. or Kings Highway.
According to police, the motoricyclist, a woman, was not wearing a helmet. She has been flown to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers with reportedly serious injuries. Police also aid a friend on the motorcycle, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Fawcett memoorial Hopistal.
