Pre-K students need to participate in Batch 1 school plan

By Staff | Mar 11, 2009

Friday, March 13 marks the last day of the Batch 1 Student Assignment period for the 2009/10 school year. According to a cursory review of the data so far, the District is pleased with the turnout, but realizes there are more students who need to participate in the process, says Joe Donzelli

director, Communications & Printing Services.

As of Monday, March 9, more than 12,700 applications had been processed for the Batch 1 period. Of those, more than 4,000 were done using the online option for parents.

“We’ve been working very hard to make sure all the applications are processed correctly,” said Leila Muvdi, director of student assignment. “But we see that our projections in the number of kindergarten applications and the actual number processed so far are a bit off.”

Staff is working hard to get the word out to the parents of current Pre-K students that they must participate in the Student Assignment process, and that if they don’t participate in Batch 1, they may not have the chance to attend their first or second choice of school.

Student Assignment is a lottery, it is not a first-come, first-served procedure. So families may think they have missed out, when in fact they have the same chance to get their first or second choice of school now as the family who applied on the first day of Batch 1.
