Lehigh Singers to present concert March 15
A Concert of “Music from around the World,” will be presented by the vocal group The Lehigh Singers on Sunday, March 15, at 3 p.m. at the East Lee County High School Auditorium under the direction of Candace Baranowski Sundby.
The price of a ticket is $5 per adult, and students and children under the age of 19 will be two for $1. The concert will be in the high school auditorium at 215 Thomas Sherwin Ave., just off of Milwaukee Blvd., near the new fire station. From downtown Lehigh, go out Bell Blvd. and at the intersection of Milwaukee, take a left and go a block and take a right onto Thomas Sherwin. You can also get there by turning left onto Milwaukee from Alabama Rd.
The group is approximately 40 members in size and come from all parts of Lee County. The Dance Troupe from Lehigh Senior High School will perform along with the Lehigh Children’s Chorus, Candace and Julian Sundby, directors. Tickets are available at LA Insurance Company on Lee Boulevard, at SunTrust Bank on Homestead Road and at Faith Lutheran Church offices.
The new Board of Directors is spending much effort to bring music and the arts to the forefront in Lehigh Acres – another effort to show what a wonderful community Lehigh Acres really is in light of recent somewhat adverse publicity in the New Yorker magazine and the New York Times.
An evening of Music and the Arts will be presented on April 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Panther Bank showcasing the art and music of Lehigh Acres.
Many of the newboard members of The Lehigh Singers have great credentials which will help showcase Music and the Arts in Lehigh Acres.
They include:
Jere Carrick, vice president and owner of Majestic Golf Course, is a former teacher turned entrepreneur who is also on theboard of the Lehigh Children’s Chorus. He moved to Lehigh from Tiffin, Ohio.
Jim Kreger, secretary and music director/ office manager of Faith Lutheran Church, was an executive director for several symphonies prior to moving to Lehigh Acres, including Maui, Hawaii, Flagstaff, Arizona, Tallahassee, Fla., and Virginia Beach, Va. His role was to bring in much needed funding from patrons, foundations and governmental agencies issuing grants in the arts, especially orchestral music.
Beth Love, president, is a 20-year resident of Lehigh Acres and holds a seat on the Lehigh Community Council. She also worked at the Senior Center in the past as music director for the “Follies.”
Robert Bowers, who established Robert Bowers Accounting in 1980 in Tampa, moved his business to Lehigh Acres in 1990. A native of Pennsylvania, Bowers attended Edison College, where he studied accounting and business and ended his formal studies at the University of South Florida. Bowers is a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he worked in the data processing specialty.
Bowers is active as a church soloist and is in demand to sing whenever his accounting practice allows him.
Richard Farsi is a member of the rock group Whitecrow and a record producer. He is currently working on the evening of “Music and the Arts” fundraiser.
Thomas Pfuner was born in Salzburg, Austria, the birthplace of Mozart, Beethoven and other artists. Art was always part of his upbringing and life. A graduate of the University of Vienna, pfuner moved to Florida and settled in Lehigh Acres in 1995 and became a real estate brokerand joined thefamily business. With more than 10 years of sales and marketing experience and success in Europe as well as being a certified general contractor, he serves I&E Homes as the general manager for residential and commercial construction. Outside of the office, Pfuner’sinterests are primarily his family, nature and art.
Elinor Scrica is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, a member of our Lee County school board and well known for her energy in motivating schools and teachers in the arts to promote student’s abilities in the arts.
Other board members include George Szmanski, Anthony and Sabra Vocaturo, Tami Baker of LA Insurance, Flo Maro at SunTrust Bank, and Charlotte Rae Nicely, the executive director of Lehigh Community Services.
Honorary board members include State Sen. David Aronberg, Julie Camp, Marcus Jansen, and Darrel W. Walters.
