Renew driver license at new site on Colonial Blvd.

By Staff | Mar 16, 2009

To better serve Florida motorists, AAA Auto Club South has teamed up with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to offer Floridians the ability to easily renew a driver license, obtain a duplicate driver license, change a name or address on a driver license, get an identification card and register to vote.

The new Driver License Service Desk is now open and accepts customers at the AAA Fort Myers branch, located at 2516 Colonial Blvd. AAA and DHSMV announced the partnership today during a press conference held at the AAA Fort Myers Branch.

Customers also will be able to enter Emergency Contact Information into a secure database only accessible to law enforcement. ECI is a critical tool used by law enforcement officials in cases where an emergency contact needs to be notified, such as a serious traffic accident.

“These are the kind of collaborative efforts that impact customers and citizens in a positive way. AAA and DHSMV both have a vested interest in serving motorists,” said Kyle Wiggs, Vice President, Branch Operations, AAA Auto Club South. “We also want to provide the services motorists need in the most convenient way possible. We anticipate this partnership will be a great success.”

“The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and AAA share a natural relationship as both organizations work to safeguard those traveling on our roadways,” said Division of Driver Licenses Director Sandra Lambert. “The Department continues to look for ways to improve customer service, and we are thrilled to be a part of this new joint venture at zero cost to the taxpayers.”

In the next six months, AAA will open three more Driver License Service Desks at three of its branch offices across the state in Downtown St. Petersburg, Sarasota Bee Ridge, and Jacksonville.

AAA Auto Club South is the fourth largest AAA affiliate with 80 branch offices serving more than 4.1 million members in Florida, Georgia, West and Middle Tennessee and Puerto Rico. It is the largest travel agency and the largest independent personal lines property and casualty insurance agency in the Southeast US.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is charged with the mission of providing highway safety and security through excellence in service, education and enforcement. The Department is leading the way to a Safer Florida by way of three major components: driver licenses, vehicle tags and titles and the Florida Highway Patrol.
