Council Commission to get Lehigh Plan on March 24

By Staff | Mar 17, 2009

The president of the Lehigh Acres Community Planning Corp. today said that the resolution by the LACPC to accept the Lehigh land use plan, otherwise known as the Lehigh Plan prepared by Wallace Roberts & Todd, will come before the county board of commissioners on March 24.

It is expected that the board will accept the plan and combine it into Lee County’s overall comprehensive plan.

Turbeville said last week that he thought the their resolution would come up in April. He emailed all the members of the LACPC today of the new date.

The Lehigh Plan calls for neighborhood nodes and makes suggestions for roads networks and commercial enterprise.

WRT held several meetings with residents of Lehigh over the past two years and has made several public presentations with the final presentation before the LACPC several weeks ago.

Once the Lee County Board of County Commissioners accepts the plan, groups such as the LACPC, the Community Council of Lehigh Acres and the Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce will push for action from the county to begin changes in Lehigh. Some of those changes will include zoning changes.

LACPC members are also hoping that the Obama stimulus package coming to Florida and filtering it way down to Lee County will be spent on improvements to highways and the construction of sidewalks in Lehigh.

Commissioner Frank Mann told the group several weeks ago that Lehigh would be the first to get funding, he believed, once the money arrives at the county level. He said at the time that it would take $70 million “just to improve and repave roads in Lehigh.

“The resolution goes to the BOCC on the 24th of March. I will update everyone if I find anything more. Please tell all your friends and plan on being there,” Turbveville said Monday.

Look at the attached fact box for a copy of the resolution provided by Jim Mudd, the county’s principal planner, who said the BOCC will vote on March 24 on the plan’s acceptance or rejection.
