Nine runs in their first at-bat set the tone and carried the North Fort Myers Red Knights to a 14-0 five-inning softball victory Monday night at Cypress Lake.

For good measure, freshman Darienne Boyden pitched a no-hitter, striking out nine batters along the way. It is her second victory backing up ace Jackie Owen on the mound this season.

Owen delivered at the plate, going 3-for-3 and drove in five runs. Maria Fernandez and Alyssa Dougherty each contributed two hits and scored two runs for the Red Knights.

North (13-1) hosts Ida Baker Tuesday night in a District 5A-12 matchup.

Girls Lacrosse

Cape Coral 8, Riverdale 7: Cape Coral got a measure of revenge for a two-goal loss to Riverdale three days earlier, pulling out a one-goal victory over the Raiders Monday.

Alex Gibson led the Seahawks with three goals while Jamie Whetsell added two goals. Tania Trujillo, Carly Boscarino and Chloe Hutchins each had one goal.

Goalkeeper Tara Murza made 17 saves to preserve the victory.

The Seahawks (5-4) return to action Saturday with two games in a tournament at Ave Maria University.

Baseball

Estero 9, Ida Baker 7: Dustin Mishka belted three home runs and Justin Pinto cracked another homer, but Ida Baker still lost to Estero.

Mishka (4-for-4) also tripled and collected four RBI. Robbie Pilgrim added a double and Mike Gulotta was 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs.

Estero’s first three batters in the first inning doubled to take a 2-1 lead the Wildcats (7-4)never relinquished.Baker (4-7_ visits North Fort Myers Tuesday.
