Lee County Animal Services is seeking foster homes for many of its resident pets. Foster homes for cats are especially needed as the start of kitten season is only a few weeks away. The shelter is already over crowed with cats and the intake of felines typically increases from 500 cats per month to 700 per month from May through October.
When permanent homes cannot be found immediately, foster homes provide a temporary solution to get animals out of the shelter quickly and reduce their exposure to disease from incoming animals. Foster parents also provide care for kittens or puppies until they are old enough to be adopted or when the facility is at capacity. Some dogs and cats have suffered abuse or neglect and are best kept in a home rather than the shelter to assist them through the recovery and transition period. Animal Services provides all necessary supplies including food, medications, and veterinary care if needed.
The Foster Program is critical in providing pets with as many opportunities to find a new home as possible when space and health issues threaten their chances. However, Animal Services needs your help to continue its mission of saving lives, one pet at a time.
