Cape Coral police have arrested a North Fort Myers man in connection with an armed burglary that occurred Sunday night.
Juan Antonio Sanchez, 27, 4468 Frankie Court, was charged with burglary and aggravated battery after his vehicle was stopped for an expired tag, Cape Coral officials stated this evening. Cape Coral Detective John Howes stopped Sanchez’ vehicle and found that he had active warrants from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Sanchez also was carrying a concealed handgun in the vehicle and was charged additionally with carrying a concealed weapon – firearm and possession of weapon by a convicted felon, according to a prepared statement issued by police.
On Sunday evening, a man had contacted Cape Coral police to report an armed burglary at his home. The victim stated that he answered a knock on his door, and when he opened the door, a man carrying a black, semi-automatic handgun forced him back into his residence. The victim attempted to push past the gunman to flee but the suspect grabbed his shirt to pull him to the ground. He then struck the victim on the left side of the head with the pistol causing injury, according to information received by police.
The victim broke free and ran to Hooters in the 3200 block of Del Prado Boulevard and contacted police. Through interviews and information gathering, Detective Brice Bearman determined that probable cause existed to arrest Sanchez for the armed burglary.
Bearman responded to assist Howes in arresting Sanchez for burglary and battery today.
