If you live in Lehigh Acres there is a good chance you have run into a member of the Disciples of Christ Development Center or at least seen one of their fliers on your job site or car. The Disciples of Christ Development Center, not to be confused with the Disciples of Christ denomination, is led by Pastors Rob and Roxanne King.
This relatively young church which holds services at East Lee County High School at 715 Thomas Sherwin Ave S., has literally exploded on the scene in Lehigh Acres. Offering in depth discipleship training at their Disciple Maker’s University, they have captured the hearts and won the faithfulness and devotion of many Lehigh Acre’s residents.
Just recently celebrating their one- year anniversary, the Disciples of Christ Development Center very well could be the fastest growing church in Florida. Senior Pastor Rob King, Jr., originally from Gary Indiana’s “Embassies of Christ” is everything but religiously serious, and can easily be described as resourceful, creative, and youthfully challenging and spontaneous.
Speaking of resourcefulness, the Center now enjoys and has full, “access granted” to East Lee County High School’s newly designed and state of the art auditorium for a sanctuary. With the fun-loving fellowship and warm environment this new congregation is now enjoying, it wouldn’t be a surprise if everyone of its seats are soon filled.
As to their creativeness, the Center held a New Year’s Eve bash that drew a phenomenal 350 people from churches, homes, and even the streets of Lehigh Acres to celebrate on one of the most competitively entertaining nights of the year.
This could be called an amazing feat considering the size of the church and the date of the celebration.
However, this didn’t surprise to Pastors Rob and Roxanne King, as they are continually challenging their congregation to increase their faith, thing big, and think outside of the box of conventional “church mindsets.”
As a testimony to Pastor Rob King Jr’s spontaneity, just recently while teaching about unity in Lehigh, he challenged and incited every member of his congregation “to immediately demonstrate their willingness to practice what they understood to be the truth.”
He, with every man, woman and child in his entire congregation literally packed up in the middle of service and caravanned over to Miracle Tower’s Principe De Paz (Church of Peace) to worship and fellowship.
Pastor Rob King Jr. and the Disciples of Christ Development Center seem to be breaking all the conventional “church boundaries” and are determined to break down the walls of denominational division and cultural segregation in Lehigh Acres.
This determination is surely being felt not just insides its own walls but is reaching the streets as well. For example, they have just recently birthed Lehigh Acre’s first Christian Recovery Home of its kind, called TRUTH House, a safe haven and beacon of light for the those suffering from drug addiction and its debilitating consequences.
The church is making an impact in Lehigh. Now members are asking each other what will they do next.
