Edna C. Hennebery
Edna Chaney Hennebery, 88, of Lehigh Acres, died Sunday, April 5, 2009. She was born in Greenwich Village in New York City on June 1, 1920 and was the daughter of the late James B. and Eleanor Chaney.
Hennebery was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School and attended Long Island University. She was an officer of the PTA at PS 176 and McKinley Junior High Schools. She also served in many capacities with the Boy Scouts of America in Cub Pack and Troop 201 and in the Atlantic District.
She was a recipient of the Scouters Award and the American Legion Americanism Medal.
Hennebery retired from the Bay Ridge Hearing Aid Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1978 and moved to Lehigh Acres and became a member of St. Raphael Catholic church, the Council of Catholic Women, VFW Post 4174 Auxiliary, the Duplicate Bridge Club, the Lehigh Acres Genealogy Society and the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.
After several years of research, she wrote a family history tracing the ancestry of John Chany of Massachusetts in 1635. The book is in the Library of Congress and several libraries across the country.
She was active in the following Hereditary societies: the Daughters of the American Revolution, Caloosahatchee Chapter; Life member of the National Officers Club; Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, Florida Royal Palm Chapter; a charter member of the Colonial Dames XVII Century, Everglades Chapter; and the Women Descendants of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, Florida Court.
She was the wife of the late William J. Hennebery. Also preceding her in death were a son, James Hennebery; and two brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by sons, William (Marie) of Warren, N.J.; Jack (Joanne) of Fort Myers, Fla.; and Richard (Jean) of Brooksville, Fla.; grandchildren, Eileen, Michael, John, Edward, Sheila and Sean; great grandchildren, Marion, Charlene, Eve, Trevor, Elise, Evan, Jack, Ethan, Jillian, and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends may call at the Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home at 12777 SR82 on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 15 at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church on Lee Blvd. in Lehigh Acres.
Interment will be at Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney, Pa.
