With a fire weather warning from the National Weather Service highlighting the danger, Cape Coral firefighters fought a wooded-area brush fire on Gator Circle between blocks early this afternoon.
Approximately 5 acres, whipped by high winds, burned with one unit defending a residence as additional trucks and firefighters responded.
Brush units 3,5,7 and one brush truck from the North Fort Myers Fire Department were called in to fight the blaze, officials said, adding high winds and dry ground were contributing factors to the size of the fire.
The cause remained undetermined early Tuesday evening, officials said.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service had issued a Fire Weather Warning for this afternoon urging Lee County residents to take proper precautions.
Wildfires often begin unnoticed, officials said in a prepared statement. These fires can spread quickly, igniting brush, trees, and homes.
Lee County residents can reduce that risk by preparing meeting with family members to decide what to do and where to go if wildfires threaten your area.
