Broadway Palm travels back to the 80s with new show
Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre presents the romantic musical comedy, The Wedding Singer, playing April 16 through June 6, 2009. This 80’s musical will take you back to a time when neon was in, hair was big and the wedding singer was the coolest guy in the room.
Dubbed “one big party”, The Wedding Singer, is based on the 1998 hit film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, and tells the story of Robbie Hart, New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer. Robbie has a desire to find the right girl and settle down, but when he finds her and she leaves him at the altar, he becomes broken-hearted and a wedding planner’s worst nightmare, taking out his bitterness on stage.
Every wedding he plays is a disaster until a charming waitress named Julia wins his affections. The only trouble is, she is about to be married and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of his lifetime, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.
The role of Robbie Hart, the wedding singer, is played by J. Michael Zygo. Performing the role of Julia Sullivan, the waitress who wins the wedding singer’s affection is Jillian Zygo, Mike’s wife. Both Mike and Jillian were last seen in Broadway Palm’s smash hit The Full Monty.
The Wedding Singer is directed by M. Seth Reines. A member of Actor’s Equity Association, Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, Seth has directed over 425 productions for stage and television. Seth recently directed this season’s Singin’ in the Rain. Choreography is provided by Broadway Palm’s resident choreographer Amy Marie McCleary. A Southwest Florida audience favorite, Amy’s choreographic skills were seen in this season’s High School Musical and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
