The Fort Myers Police Department is asking the public again to help identify remains found more than two years ago. Police hope newly released sketches created by Forensic artist Sheri Dunaske of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office will help bring-in more tips.
On March 23, 2007 officers discovered the remains of eight individuals off Arcadia Road. Personnel from FMPD, multiple law enforcement agencies, Florida Gulf Coast University and the Medical Examiner’s Office meticulously collected the remains for examination. A team of scientists then studied the remains to determine characteristics of each individual person. On June 8, 2007 detectives released those characteristics to the public, which included dental care and life injuries. On Jan. 18, 2008 detectives released recreations of the eight people. A forensic artist in Wyoming created the sculptures. So far, investigators have identified three of the eight people.
Investigators believe identifying the remains is key in solving the case. The sketches may help a family member recognize an individual that went missing. The findings suggest the individuals were placed at the location between the years 1980 and 2000. Anyone with information is asked to call FMPD at 321-7700
