Lee’s EMS gets excellent marks in unannounced inspection

By Staff | Apr 14, 2009

Lee County Emergency Medical Services recently passed an unannounced state inspection with all excellent marks.

The Florida Department of Health’s Bureau of Emergency Medical Services compliance unit periodically and randomly inspects licensees for compliance with state statutes and the administrative code. The goal is to monitor the quality of patient care (patients of all ages) delivered by each licensed service and appropriately certified personnel.

To do so, the department checks six specific areas of inspection, including personnel records, service records and facilities inspection forms, advanced and basic life support ground and air ambulances and equipment. No deficiencies were found.

Inspector M.M. Lewis wrote in his report, “The citizens and visitors of Fort Myers and Lee County can be proud of the excellent service you provide. Good QI (quality improvement) program and medical direction. (Ground and air ambulances) were very clean and well supplied. All personnel were polite and familiar with their vehicles and equipment.”

Only 40 percent of the bi-annual state inspections are random unannounced.
