GPS tracks down sexual offender
A registered sexual predator from Lee County has been arrested for failing to report an address change after Lee County deputies tracked him down through a GPS device.
David Fulcher, 45, whose last reported address was 11431 Char Ann Drive, Apartment “C”, Fort Myers, was arrested after detectives used a Global Positioning Satellite device to track down Fulcher in Levy County.
A detective with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Sexual Offender and Predator Unit conducted an address verification at the Char Ann Drive address on April 1. Fulcher was not there and all his personal property had been removed. Further investigation revealed that Fulcher had purchased a vehicle from a Fort Myers dealer, officials said. The dealer routinely installs GPS tracking equipment on his vehicles to recover the vehicle if payments have not been received.
The tracking software showed the vehicle was stationary in the area of Northwest 130th Street in Chiefland. Detectives contacted the Levy County Sheriff’s Office and requested deputies respond to the address. Fulcher was located and arrested.
Fulcher is charged with failing to report an address change to the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles within 48 hours of a permanent or temporary residence change.
