Last month the Lehigh Acres Senior Center on Plaza Drive turned the place into a giant shamrock to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Inside were a canopy of shamrocks, green, white and silver streamers and more. The tables were set with shamrocks, Leprechauns, Irish decor and diners wearing the green.

Members were greeted by Ed Bishop, president of the board, who offered grace before the traditional dinner of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, rolls and butter following a garden salad with choice of dressings.

Vice President Nancy Bartlett created a special dessert – Green Irish Creme Mousse – for the occasion and Bishop awarded Bartlett a plaque and gold watch for all the special events and services she has voluntarily directed for many years at the facility.

Center Director Teresa Perkins presented a slide show of past activities and introduced Kimberly Knaub, owner of Kellyn Celtic Arts in Fort Myers. Filling the ballroom with Irish melodies, Celtic dancers and authentic fashions were presented by Jaime Knaub, 8-year-old Shelby Seymour with teens Kay Donovan and Bethany Namour, all of of Southwest Florida.

Certified Celtic instructor Jaime Knaub led audience members in traditional dances to the delight of more than 200 lads and lassies who attended.
