Arrest is made in preschool investigation

By Staff | Apr 23, 2009

Officials at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office today said they have arrested Don Lee Trummel, 61, of 2466 Woodland Circle, Fort Myers, and charged him with two counts of committing lewd molestation on a victim under the age of 12.

On April 8, 2009, investigators with the Sheriff’s Office were notified by the Department of Children and Families that a sexual abuse victim had identified a daycare provider at Villas Pre-School, Don Trummel, as the suspect. Due to the nature of the allegation, detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit assumed the investigation.

On April 9, a second child came forward with allegations of sexual abuse, also identifying Don Trummel as the suspect, investigators said. Due to the consistency of the victim’s statements, as well as corroborating statements made by witnesses, probably cause was established to arrest and charge Trummel, investigators said.

On April 23, at approximately 4:28 p.m., Trummel was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail.
