Tutors needed to teach English to adults
It was announced today that volunteers in Lehigh Acres are needed to help a local agency teach English to local residents.
You do not have to be a teacher or have had experience because you will taught to teach by signing up for a tutor training session with Literacy Volunteers of Lee County (LVLC), a nonprofit agency that provides free adult literacy programs with the help of trained volunteers.
A training session for volunteer tutors is scheduled in Lehigh on Saturday, May 16, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the LVLC Office, 9 Beth Stacey Blvd., Suite 202, Lehigh. Call 239-368-1002 to request a registration packet. A $30 training fee is requested to cover the cost of the materials. Scholarships are available.
Tutors must be adults (over the age of 18) who are willing to commit a minimum of one hour of tutoring time per week for a minimum of a year. They must be high-school graduates, literate in English, and do not need to speak another language. Tutors do not need teaching experience.
LVLC is a United Way partner agency and an affiliate of ProLiteracy America, the national adult literacy association. LVLC provides case management for all matches.
