Fla. Rep plans showcase for acting interms
Officials at Florida Repertory Theatre have announced a May 4 Showcase for its Acting Intern class of 2009. A group of four young professionals who have spent the season with Florida Rep appearing in the Children’s Touring & Lunchbox Theatre Series, working on the Arcade stage and behind the scenes in many capacities, this showcase is designed to give them one final performance opportunity.
“Their work this season has been very solid,” said Florida Rep associate director and Showcase director Jason Parrish. “We’re proud of their accomplishments, and wish them the best as they continue their careers in the theatre.”
The theme for the evening is “disturbed People,” and features scenes, monologues and songs that will showcase their talents, and take the audience on a journey of neuroses – from darkly comic to refreshingly bizarre, Parrish said.
The showcase features the talents of Jack Benton, Trey Gerrald, Jessica Leach and Mary-Margaret Roberts. Their work with Florida Rep’s Children’s Theatre series was seen all season long in the Rep’s three offerings for kids and families. On the Arcade stage, Leach was seen last in Art of Murder, Gerrald and Roberts in Alone Together and Benton most recently appeared in Star Crossed Lovers, Florida Rep’s collaboration with the Southwest Florida Symphony.
Disturbed People: A Showcase plays on Monday, May 4 at 5 p.m. in the Historic Arcade Theatre on Bay Street in the Fort Myers River District. A reception with refreshments will follow. There is no charge for admission, but Florida Rep suggests a $10 donation to fund its Education and Outreach Programming.
Florida Repertory Theatre is located on Bay Street between Jackson and Hendry in the Historic Arcade Theatre in the Fort Myers River District. For tickets, call the box office at 239-332-4488.
