The Goodwill L.I.F.E. Academy has received a $3,000 grant from the John E. and Aliese Price Foundation. The grant money will be used to support the school’s vocational training program.
The L.I.F.E. Academy is a tuition-free Lee County charter school for middle and high school students with developmental disabilities seeking Special Diplomas (Options 1 & 2). The school’s individualized programs are designed to successfully transition young adults with developmental disabilities into post-school adult living. In addition to providing functional academic skills, the L.I.F.E. Academy curriculum provides life skills to promote independence.
The school’s vocational training program is open to qualified L.I.F.E. Academy students. The program consists of vocational assessments, career exploration activities, job-hunting soft skills, and paid internships. Recently, L.I.F.E. Academy transition program participants completed internships working at Goodwill’s processing plant, stores, Goodwill Secure Shred, and Shopgoodwill.com.
The L.I.F.E. Academy is currently enrolling students for the Fall 2009 semester.
