Red Knights coast past Nova 12-0

Sophomore Jasmine Santiago cracked a two-run home run to highlight an eight-run fourth inning that carried North Fort Myers to a 12-0 victory over Davie Nova in five innings Tuesday night at North’s Bobby Dewey Field.

The Region 5A-4 quarterfinal victory sends the Red Knights (25-3) to the regional semifinal round Friday at Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. Aquinas topped Fort Myers 3-2 Tuesday to advance to the semis.

Jackie Owen (21-3) pitched four 2/3 innings of one-hit, shutout ball and struck out four to earn the win. Darienne Boyden pitched to the final batter to preserve the shutout.

Alyssa Dougherty (1-for-3) drove in two runs for the Red Knights and Michaela Schlotter contributed two hits.

Region 3A-3: Tampa Catholic pitching kept Bishop Verot hitters off balance and guessing en route to a 5-1 victory Tuesday night at Fleishman Park.

The Vikings managed five singles by five different players – Talia Baracco, Katie Clinger, Taylor Kramer, Paris Prusak and Betsy Doragh. The Vikings (18-10) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but got only one run out of the rally.
