‘Torch Run’ will help Special Olympics Florida
Lee County’s annual “Law Enforcement Torch Run,” aimed at helping Special Olympics Florida, will be held Friday, May 1.
The Torch Run is an intra-state relay involving more than 300 city, county, state and federal agencies from 67 counties throughout Florida.
Representatives from the following agencies are expected to participate in the event: Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Myers Police Department, Cape Coral Police Department, Sanibel Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Lee County Port Authority Police and Lee County Parks and Recreation.
The event kicks off at 8 a.m., at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office headquarters, at 14750 Six Mile Cypress, Fort Myers. It ends at the Big Lots parking lot at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Pondella Road in North Fort Myers. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and is restricted to law enforcement and other first responders.
Traffic may be slow between the hours of 8 to 10 a.m. along northbound U.S. 41. Deputies will escort runners along the route to ensure minimal disruptions, officials said.
