Lehigh fugitive arrested in Virginia
A tip to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers has led to the arrest of a Lee County fugitive on the run for four years.
Osvaldo Romero, 29, formerly of Lehigh Acres, was facing numerous drug charges when he fled Lee County in 2005, said Sheriff’s public information spokesman Tony Schall today.
Armed with 12 felony warrants, the U.S. Marshal’s Office Southwest Florida Regional Task Force tracked Romero across the U.S. and Mexico before catching up with him on May 5, 2009 in Linden, Va. A call to the U.S. Marshal’s Office in Virginia led to his apprehension, Schall said.
In addition to the 12 felony warrants out of Lee County, Schall said Romero also has two felony warrants out of Seminole County, Florida for exhibition of a dangerous weapon.
Extradition proceedings are underway to bring Romero back to Lee County, Schall said.
The U.S. Marshal’s Office Southwest Florida Regional Task Force is comprised of members from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the United States Marshal’s Office.
