Results from Friday’s Sobriety Checkpoint
From the Lee County Sheriff’s Office today
A sobriety checkpoint was conducted in Lee County on Friday night May 8, 2009 at North Cleveland Avenue and Hancock Bridge Parkway North Fort Myers. The following are the results of the activity that began at 11:00 p.m. and ended at 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning:
Driving Under Influence: 7
Driving Without a Valid Driver’s License: 6
Driving While Driver’s License Suspended: 5
Possession of a Controlled Substance: 1
Felony Warrant out of State: 1
Number of Vehicles passing through checkpoint: 961
Traffic Citations Issued: 47
The primary emphasis for checkpoints is to:
1. Remove impaired drivers from the roadway.
2. Reduce the likelihood impaired drivers will operate their vehicles on our roadways.
3. Heighten public awareness.
4. Educate the public on the dangers of drunk driving.
This weekend’s checkpoint involved members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Myers Police Department, Cape Coral Police Department Florida Gulf Coast University Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol and Florida Department of Transportation.
