By Staff | May 11, 2009

The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles split a doubleheader at Kennesaw State Saturday, moving them closer to their second consecutive A-Sun regular season baseball title.

The Eagles took game one 11-7 but fell 6-5 in game two. They remain 2 1/2 games up on the Owls. A win next weekend against Stetson gives the Eagles the conference title.

Against Kennesaw State, FGCU’s Josh Chester extended his hitting streak to 23 games.

In game one, the Owls opened up with four runs in the first inning. The Eagles trailed 7-4 but continued to rally in the sixth. Former Mariner High grad Josh Upchurch (3-for-5) led off with a double and later scored.

The Eagles continued their charge with one run in the eighth and five in the ninth. Tim Roberson connected on a three-run shot and Zach Maxfield followed with a solo shot.
