JROTC students help to raise 18,000 pounds of food
To help those in Lee County in need, the public school system employees have been collecting food items to be donated to local charities. Employees collected approximately 18,000 pounds of food, all of which will go to help those who need it most, said Bill Zacovic, coordinator of the JROTC Programs with the school system.
Not to be left out, the District’s JROTC students wanted to help the cause and started a food drive of their own, he said.
And when the month-long food drive was over, the JROTC students collected some 10,000 pounds of food. These items will be distributed by local charitable organizations, including Community Cooperative Ministries, Inc (CCMI,) to help those families that are in need, Zacovic said.
“This is yet another example of what our students can do and it shows their true character,” said Dr. James Browder, superintendent of schools. “Every time I think I cannot feel any prouder of our students, I am proven wrong our students are role models for everyone else in the community.”
