Fallen officers to be honored Friday morning, public invited to attend

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office will host the annual service to honor Lee county’s fallen officers Monday morning (May 13) at 9 a.m. The ceremony will he held outside the sheriff’s office headquarters at 14750 Six Mile Cypress Parkway.

The ceremony coincides with National Peace Officers Memorial Week, a time when the entire nation remembers the brave men and women who have died protecting us.

Those being remembered and the date they died:

Lt. Matthew Hisler – January 3, 1930

Trooper Joseph Bertrand – December 22, 1967

Deputy Richard Eva – February 12, 1972

Deputy Michael Yahl – March 13, 1976

Deputy Lynn Hall – April 11, 1979

Sgt. Laroy Scott – April 3, 1981

Corporal Ronnie Fewell – March 16, 1983

Detective Mark Bolhouse – January 19, 1988

Corporal Alfredo Banos – January 30, 2001

Deputy Michael Shostak – November 8, 2001

K-9 Alko – April 20, 2003

Officer Daniel Starks – October 25, 2003

Corporal Patrick Healey – May 13, 2004

Deputy Margena Nunez – October 22, 2006

Officer Andrew Widman – July 18, 2008

These officers served their community with integrity and courage. They made the ultimate sacrifice, and reminded us that safety in our neighborhoods does not come without a cost, officials said.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
