Keith Kaye writes about Lehigh crime
To The Editor,
Up until today (Tuesday, 5/12) I was putting this email together in an attempt to spread information I thought to be valid and workable. That was until about 1 p.m. today when I had a conversation with a local Hispanic man. While talking with this man (who I believe to be a nice person) he told me “I finally got my new mortgage.” I asked what he meant.
He said he was worried about keeping his house and had “applied” for assistance. He was told by someone in the system “to let my house payments get behind so I could the get some of Obama’s money.” He said he did just that, got the money “plus some extra to do work to the house.”
So it is over. The stimulus money is already here and you folks (and me, for now) are doomed.
While some of you have been out there painting houses, cleaning yards and baking cookies for those in the target area you have shot yourself in the butt. Can you folks not understand that the commissioners and the ones that wanna-be in your new city government have lied to you and conned you?
Let me tell you what is gonna happen in just under two years. You are gonna be prisoners in your own homes. And you won’t be able to give your homes away let alone sell them.
The folks you have been catering to in the crime area will take what you will give them, smile with you at noon and they will stick a pistol in your face at midnight. Then they’ll run the few blocks back to their government-provided welfare community (that you are gonna pay for) and wait for the next opportunity. And it isn’t going to get better.
Some folks have said we have to incorporate so we “can have local control”; so we “can see our elected officials in the supermarket”; and we “can get things done without having to go to the county.”
Well, you are gonna get your wish because the county isn’t going to pay to protect you; the county is not going to foot the bills for the masses of welfare folks headed here so if you want protection you are going to have to incorporate. The kicker? The county is the one that has allowed all this to happen and it has not been so it is to your benefit.
Bo Turbeville and the boys at the Board of County Commissioners have laid this out pretty well. All of you that wouldn’t listen or were thinking with your hind-ends have no one to thank but yourselves.
Since I already had the proposals put together I’m sending them on as all the work has been done. It does not behoove me to say it but, “I told ya so.”
This is being given to the Steering Committee and Commission, Bo Turbeville, chairman:
As a taxpaying resident of Lehigh Acres (LA) I offer the following proposals to be considered by the Steering Committee and the Lee county Commissioners in an effort to “fight” crime in the community.
On May 13, 2009, I emailed this document to Mr. Turbeville, all members of the Lee County Commission, members of the Neighborhood Restoration Committee and Mel Toadvine, editor of the Lehigh Acres Citizen. I intend to hand out printed copies to the entire Steering Committee and Restoration Committee on May 14, at their respective meetings.
I request a written point-by-point response for a public record from the Committee regarding these strategies at its earliest convenience.
If after earnest consideration by the Steering Committee and the county these proposals fail due to lack of merit, then so be it.
If, however, these proposals “never see the light of day” due to procedural mumbo-jumbo, are not entered into the Committee’s or any public record, are not officially scrutinized and commented upon then the residents of LA can very well understand that W&S is just another government lie. And goodness knows government has lied to us all too often.
These proposals address the W&S program itself, the crime area environment, the influx of federal money, the criminals and the spread of crime.
