FGCU grabs second A-Sun title
Since going to a one-division format in 1999, the FGCU Eagles became the first Atlantic Sun team to win consecutive conference titles in its first two years in the conference.
FGCU split a pair with Stetson Friday, losing 2-1 in game one and winning the second 5-4 in 12 innings. The Eagles (35-28, 22-7 A-Sun), have won at least 35 games every season dating date to their inaugural season in 2003.
In the opener, Chris Sale threw his first complete game of the season. Sale got the loss, giving up eight hits, two runs (one earned), with 12 strike outs. In the eighth, the Hatters (27-28, 16-13) broke a 1-1 tie when Jeff Simpson led off with a double down the left field line, and scored on a sac-fly by Casey Frawley.
The Eagles only recorded two hits in the game. The only other time they have been held to just two hits was a five-inning game March 28 against Belmon.
